LOST on WBUR’s On Point
If you’re a LOST fan, check out this podcast from WBUR’s “On Point”
Free Download Manager
If you’re in the market for a download manager, check out the latest beta of Free Download Manager. Not only is it fairly smooth to use, but it actually maxed out my cable connection on a site that is usually a bit slow for me. Don’t ask how, I have no idea.
Persistence
Persistence is a brutal guide-the-dot-through-the-maze game. Long mazes, distracting (but nice) backgrounds, this is the best in the genre. Yes, it’s a genre.
Finetune
Finetune looks sort of similar to Pandora and has a Wii option which is nice. Speaking of Pandora, this little Windows application appears to let you save the music you hear there.
Shope papillomavirus
Leave it to WFMU’s Beware of the Blog to inform me of what might be a human case of the Shope papillomavirus. Here’s a comment from this “Beware of the Blog” post: “These growths look very similar to ones caused by the Shope papillomavirus strain in rabbits. This virus also causes keratin growths that eventually hinder the rabbit’s ability to eat/breath, thus killing the host. The horn-like projections are the origin of jackelope stories and sightings. This may well be some unidentified strain of papillomavirus specific to humans.”
Airplanes- Permitted and Prohibited Items
I’m (Paul) off to Madrid and Sicily later in April. I was checking to see what the new carry-on regulations are and FRAK (yes, I’m a Battlestar fan- not to be confused with geek, dork etc), are they messed up. So, based on what we cannot bring on the plane, here are some shockers: small scissors, Screwdrivers/Wrenches/Pliers (seven inches or less in length), Corkscrews, Cuticle Cutters, Bug sprays/repellents and Aerosol spray bottles/cans? And thank god I can bring my Toy Transformer Robots (listed under Makeup & Personal Items and Medication & Special Needs Devices)
Murkilla
Well done fake movie trailer, but really only entertaining at all to people who play World of Warcraft.
Carnival of Scams
Carnival of Scams, top 4 fairground cons. Watch video of how some of the most common ones are done.
Boulder Dash
Boulder Dash was always a favorite of mine, especially the Commodore 64 version. Here is a list of online Flash variants for you to check out. This version is a little closer to the original but it’s still not quite right. I think I’m breaking out my C64 emulator.
27B Stroke 6
27B Stroke 6 is a Wired blog that seems to be focused on privacy rights and generally scary news about such things.
Dr. Seuss Art
Not only can you purchase Dr. Seuss artwork from this site, you can also buy taxidermy items at crazy prices, such as this Semi-Normal Green-Lidded Fawn for the low price of $3,495.
This American Life
If you don’t have Showtime (like me) but still want to see the television version of NPR’s This American Life, check out the first episode online for free. It was really good, I’m hoping for a DVD at the end of season one.
Grand Illusions
Grand Illusions: neat toys, optical illusions and cool video.
Turkish Star Wars
I have a rough copy of Turkish Star Wars but found a better one on Google Video. This version has English subtitles and I’m not sure if I like it more with or without. If you’ve never seen the ridiculousness that is this movie then you have to at least flip to the fight scenes. The download link on Free Movies Cinema isn’t currently working, but I’m hoping for a fix. The sites that let you download Google Videos never seem to work well for me.
Medieval Castles
Read more about Medieval Castles than almost anyone would care to. I wish the haunted castle was a bit more interesting, but it’s still an interesting visit if castles are your thing.
Nuns Bowling
I don’t use Flickr nearly enough. Where else can you put “nuns bowling” in a search box and come up with an appropriate photo?
Crazy News Story
I don’t usually post regular news items, but come on… not only was this guy involved in a car crash that killed two people, a severed head was found at the scene that is suspected to be his missing wife. Story at NWCN.com.
